The APDT Good Companion Awards.

Train to a National Standard. Earn the Rosette. Build the Bond.

We don't just make up our own rules. As a full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (UK), JPM Dog Training follows the national "Good Companion" curriculum.

These awards aren't about show-dog perfection; they are about real life. They test whether your dog can be a polite, safe, and happy member of society.

  • The Method: Strictly Kind, Fair, and Effective training.

  • The Goal: A dog you can take anywhere.

  • The Prize: Every graduate receives the official Certificate and Rosette.

Level 2: The Foundation Award

Dogs aged 6 months+ (Adolescents, Rescues, Beginners). Price: £99

(5 x 45 mins Weekly sessions).

Whether you have a "teenage" puppy or a new rescue, this course resets the basics. We focus on real-world reliability, working towards the APDT Foundation Award.

The Curriculum: We focus on self-control and manners, including:

  • Loose Lead Walking: Walking nicely without pulling, even with distractions.

  • Reliable Recall: Coming back to you from a distance (approx. 5m).

  • The Stay: Essential for safety and patience—teaching them to remain in place until you are ready.

  • Impulse Control: Waiting politely at doors, gates, and for food.

  • Positions: Accurate Sit, Down, and Stand on cue.

Assessment: Continuous assessment throughout the 5 weeks. No scary exam day!

What comes next?

Training never stops! Once you have your Foundation Rosette, you unlock access to our advanced levels. We work towards the APDT Improver, Intermediate, and Advanced Awards.

These classes take your training "off-road," covering skills like:

  • Distance Control: Emergency Stops and Recalls from distance.

  • Off-Lead Work: Heelwork and focus without the safety net of a lead.

  • Formal Handling: Teaching your dog to co-operate with you when being handled.
